Roses like a good, deep soak to promote deep rooting and they will actually develop drought tolerance if established this way. Each year, between 300,000 and 400,000 seedlings are grown and evaluated at the research facility. The Jackson and Perkins research center is just outside Somis California near the coast. Find hardy roses where the surviving roots enable plants to rejuvenate as the same plant variety, rather than the rootstock variety, after a hard freeze. Search freely branched plants with a more natural, rounded habit and more blooms.
